Pupils delighted with best ever exam results

It was another record breaking year for A Level top achievers, Adams’ Grammar School and Newport Girls High, as the A grades flooded in and the pass rate soared.

Adams’ Grammar School pupils managed to attain the highest number of A and B grades in the school’s history, while Newport Girls High achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.

Edwina Gleeson, Head at the Girls High, said: “I am thrilled and delighted with the results, we have had particularly impressive pupils this year.

“I am extremely happy and not just with the academic success but with the extra curricula achievements of the pupils in sport, music and citizenship.

“Many congratulations to the girls on their tremendous results and to the staff whose hard work and dedication have made these results possible. A special word of thanks must go to the parents whose support is an essential ingredient in this success story.”

New Adams’ Grammar Head Michael Barratt, said: “It has been a distinct joy and profound honour to work with these pupils and it has humbled me.

“Considering the A/B grade percentage, which is the measure by which we judge ourselves, this year has been the best set of results in the school’s history.

“They are a testament to the significant endeavours of pupils and teachers throughout the entire two years of A Level Study. The most important part of these results is that they enable the majority of our pupils to go on to their preferred University.

“I would also like to pay tribute to Jim Richardson, the headmaster of the last 15 years, whose work has led the school towards the most significant of our landmarks.”

Adams’ Grammar School, Head Boy, Simon Gomburg, added: “I am very happy because I got the four As I was after and I am going to Oxford Corpus Christie to study Medicine.”
