After nearly two decades service as chairman on the Chamber of Commerce Eric Carter was presented with a commemorative tankard this week.
Having worn the chairman’s hat for 17 out of the last 21 years, Eric decided to stand down last March to focus on his new role as Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for regeneration.
New Chairman Mark Freeman of Henshalls Insurance Brokers said: “Eric leaves some big shoes to fill.
“His offer of help is most welcome, and I will undoubtedly be calling upon his experience and local knowledge during my term.”
Pat Beech, local mortgage broker and long-serving member of the Chamber said at the AGM: “The Chamber tonight is probably 45 years old and it’s a memorable night to thank and congratulate Eric on his 17 years as chairman.
“Personally I’ve known Eric for a good 30 years through thick and thin and we have become close friends.
“His service has been invaluable over the years and I hope he will continue to contribute his knowledge in the future. We wish him well in his new roles.
“For his contribution, on behalf of the Chamber we present Eric with an engraved tankard as an appreciation for his service.”
Former Eric said he is now looking forward to taking part as just a member of the Chamber.
“I was very honoured to receive the tankard and I would like to thank the Chamber for thinking of me.
“I haven’t left the Chamber, just the role as chairman, so I’m looking forward to taking part and I wish them well. We are now going from strength to strength.”
