The ride, dubbed ‘The Extreme’, will be making its first appearance in Shropshire as part of the funfair in Newport High Street on May 5.

Twenty-four people at a time can enjoy the ride, which spins people upside down and from side to side.

The funfair was given the final go-ahead this week after being backed by the police, fire service, ambulance service and the council.

It will run from noon until 9pm. High Street will be closed to all traffic from 6pm on May 4 until midnight the following day.

Joint organiser Rodney Pitt said: “I am thrilled to be re-instating this historic event and I hope that if it is successful then we can make it an annual event.

“I have worked with a professional fairground company and together we will be offering a wide range of rides and attractions to suit all tastes and ages.

“The rides include those suitable for the brave, for adults and for children and we hope this will provide fun and enjoyment for everyone.”

It will be the first fair in Newport town centre for 74 years.

It will be run by Shropshire-based Stokes Funfairs, which has been established for more than 100 years.
