An eight-year-old boy from Newport is now the proud owner of a pair of boxing gloves signed by former World Champion Richie Woodhall.
Conor Barker beat off competition from a number of hopefuls to claim the gloves signed by one of Shropshire’s most famous sons.
And it seems boxing success runs in the family as Conor’s grandad is former professional welterweight Thomas Yarnold.
Conor said: “ I am really pleased – I’m going to start practising with them when I get home. I really like boxing and sometimes I practice at home with my dad on rugby pads.
“I saw the competition in the paper and wanted to win. I wanted to get the feel of them and now I want to learn how to punch.”
The gloves are signed by Richie Woodhall who became World Champion for two years in 1998.
Conor said: “I’ve being doing a little bit of research and I know he was born in Telford and was World Champion.
“I can’t wait to use them they are a little bit big but I will grow into them.”
