A Newport business has dug deep to back Edgmond scouts’ forthcoming trip to India.
KRM Contractors, based on Springfield Industrial Estate, has donated £500 to the cause.
All Terrain, a new outdoor shop in Telford Shopping Centre, meanwhile, has handed over 12 mosquito nets, worth around £150.
Six explorer scouts from 1st Edgmond Scout Group are hoping to raise £1,500 for their journey, where they will help children in a rural school.
KRM director Alan Rumbles said he was pleased to be able to assist in a good cause.
He said: “We are keen to help local groups when we can. This sounds like a really good project and we wish them all well.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to keep track of their progress.”
The half dozen Edgmond scouts will be part of a team of nine Explorers hand-picked from across Shropshire.
Fundraising co-ordinator Andy Geddes said the group of 16 to 18-year-olds would be helping with valuable work and developing life skills.
He said: “The Explorers will be visiting a rural primary school some 50km south of Delhi this summer to carry out some much-needed construction work.
“They will be working on the footings and drainage runs to help complete the building of an assembly hall.
“They will also teach the children and their older siblings some games and help with their English language development.
“This will not be a holiday, but a rich cultural experience that will be valuable to them in developing their life skills.”
On Wednesday night the intrepid scouts met the head of the school trust in India.
Sponsors were also present to hand over their donations.
Mark Tarran, owner of All Terrain, said: “Seeing what the Explorers will be doing in India, it really put it into perspective how lucky we are in Britain.
“We hope these mosquito nets help make living conditions better in India.”
On July 3 daring scouts will be taking part in a sponsored abseil down Edgmond Church.
