Newport Town FC have secured the treble – bringing the perfect climax to a stunning first season – after beating Ludlow Town Reserves in the League Cup final.
Town romped home in familiar fashion with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday night without breaking sweat.
The club will now be investing in a sizeable trophy cabinet after bagging three cups in their first ever season.
Proud captain Steve Handley said the win gives them perfect momentum for next year.
He said: “We were never really troubled by Ludlow; our other cup final at the Prostar was much harder and if we had made the most of our chances it could have been five or six.
“I always thought we would win the league but to win both of the cups as well was brilliant – everyone is buzzing.
“I’m hoping to captain the side again next season and with the squad we should have another successful year and hopefully pick up some more silverware.
“We had a few beers on Wednesday night but the big celebration is next Saturday which should be another great night.”
It was an easy victory for Town who went ahead through super captain Steve Handley’s penalty after 25 minutes when Jez Harman was brought down in the box.
Ten minutes later a Ludlow defender sliced an attempted clearance into the back of his own net and the half-time score remained unchanged.
Town’s season got off to winning ways by first clinching the Williams & Picken Shropshire Junior Cup with a 4-2 win over Ellesmere Rangers in April.
They went on to secure the Shropshire County first division trophy after trouncing Wellington Amateurs Reserves 7-1 earlier this month.
And with the final league game of the season last Saturday, against second placed Ketley Bank United, they stamped their authority on the first division with 2-0 win.
But it will be the cup victory against Ludlow Reserves which remains fondest in the memory bringing a fitting end to the 2009/10 season.
Corks will be popped on Saturday, May 22, as players toast to the end of a remarkable first season with a presentation evening at the Molineux, Wolverhampton.
Celebrations kick off at 7pm including a buffet, disco, prize draw and auction.
Anyone wishing to attend can buy tickets for £21 including transport to and from Newport or £15 on the door.
