Nova Juniors Football Club is once again backing the 2010 January Jog as it prepares to host the event on the Shuker Field pitches.
The club celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and there will be high spirits as the doors are flung open on Sunday, January 3.
As well as providing plenty of runners on the day the club will also be investing in manpower at the event with club members helping with registration and refreshments.
This year’s run out will see the return a 2.5km fun run and 5km senior race.
And while sights have been set on reaching a £4.000 target Nova committee member Mike Jenkins said the event means a huge amount to the town club.
He said: “It’s a huge event in our calender and it should be a special occasion being our 35th anniversary.
“We always host the event and we have really encouraged all our members to join in. It’s a great fundraising opportunity and even the kids that can’t make it do things of their own accord to raise money.”
Nova United Junior Football Club have 14 teams ranging from u4s to u18s and they also accommodate adult team Newport Town.
The club hopes the people of the town will be out in force to support the event.
Mike added: “We open up the clubhouse for refreshments and registration and we have also just had a new groundsman to work on the pitches so hopefully they will be in good condition for the day.
“The event is also a chance to promote Nova United because it attracts a wide range of people.
“We hope this event helps to put our club on the local map and it also helps to put the spotlight on children’s sport which can often be forgotten.”
Registration stars at 11am at Shuker Field- but organisers are keen to get as many people signed up beforehand as possible. To enter, simply fill in the coupon printed opposite and send it to Macmillan’s centre in Shrewsbury.
And remember there is no minimum sponsorship requirement for this year’s event with runners asked to raise as much as they can, and above all, enjoy the event.
