Newport and District Civic Society will be taking people back in time to see the town in the 1960s.
The society is presenting a set of unique pictures of Newport High Street dating from around half a century ago.
They will be on display on Tuesday at 7.30pm in Church Aston Church Hall.
Chairman of the society Martin Elkes said the photos provide a fascinating record of the town.
He said: “The photographs were very kindly donated by Brenda Ray who said they were put together by her late husband Barry, a keen photographer and active past member of the society for many years.
“The photos are particularly apt at present in allowing residents to be able to contrast the High Street as it was, against the plans for the proposed changes to which are due to be on display at Cosy Hall this week.
“The long rolls of pictures as opposed to individual snaps give a real feel for the High Street.”
Also on the evening, Richard Bifield will be taking everyone on a virtual journey around some of his favourite places of Shropshire.
Mulled wine and mince pies will be available after the talk and there will also be a free raffle.
Entrance is £1 for non- members. Membership is available on the night for anyone wishing to join Newport and District Civic Society at an annual subscription of £8 (for which members get 10 newsletters a year.)
Anyone joining on the night gets free entrance for that evening.
