January Jog returns!

newjog.jpgThe Newport Advertiser January Jog returns in 2010 aiming to raise more money for Macmillan Cancer.

The jog takes place on Sunday, January 3, at Shuker Field with the usual 5km senior race and a 2.5km fun run. The cost of the event has been frozen this year with the senior race £5 and the fun run only £3. There is no minimum amount of money to raise.

Last year’s event pulled in more than £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer and it is hoped the 2010 race will beat that barrier.

There is plenty of fun for all the family with refreshments and live entertainment provided on the day.

Registration starts at 11am at the sports field with organisers aiming to get as many people signed up before the day as possible.

So don’t delay, enter today.

Application forms will be printed every week in the Advertiser between now and race day with forms also available from Newport Running Club.

Advertiser Deputy Editor Alex James said: “The jog is now a fixture on the Newport calendar and is becoming more and more popular every year.

“If you have entered in the past then you will know it is a well-organised event and if you haven’t entered before now is your chance.

“It’s a great way to kick off the new year and burn off all those festive calories! And of course it raises vital cash for Macmillan Cancer.”

The event is expected to attract around 500 runners so people are advised to enter as early as possible.

Macmillan Cancer spokeswoman Clare Nestor added: “This year we are trying to get as many people pre-registered as possible to ensure the day runs smoothly.

“On the day entry will still be in place but we urge people to get themselves registered using the Advertiser coupon (printed left) as soon as possible.”
