The players and the management team have to take a look at themselves - that is the stark message from Newport director of Rugby Ray Price today.
The Fishes slumped to second-from-bottom in the National Division Three Midlands league with a 34-10 defeat at South Leicester last weekend.
That was their third league defeat on the spin and their sixth of the season already.
Price readily admits that his team needs to quickly improve, starting with the visit of mid-table Peterborough tomorrow.
He said: “We were comprehensively beaten by South Leicester.
“The worst thing is that they scored six tries and we gifted them five of those through our own mistakes.
“There were lots of unforced errors and turn over balls and that’s just not good enough.
“The lads have got to look at themselves and the management team as well.
“These are very tough times.”
The injury problems at Newport shows no signs of easing with news this week that fly half James Curgenven could be out until Christmas with his broken arm.
The 24-year-old star saw a specialist this week and was advised to rest for at least another three months.
Prop Craig Ingram is unlikely to be fit after pulling a hamstring and No 8 Adam Greaves is also out with a should problem.
Tobby Mann and Ben Warrilow, meanwhile, are away.
Price added: “We expected it to be tough this season but not this tough.
“It really puts the pressure on the players who are available.
“But we were in this position a couple of years ago and we pulled it back and became on of the better sides in the league.
“We’ve just got to ride this out together.”
Newport were 10 points down in as many minutes at South Leicester after two simple pick and drives.
The visitors finally woke up and started to assert some authority on the game, but another basic error gifted the home side a 20-0 half time advantage.
A half time tongue-lashing by head coach Ian Bletcher showed signs of success as Toby Mann nipped around the scrum and crashed over to make it 20-5.
A further try by Tomasi Tanumi brought Newport to within two scores of winning the game, but it was too little too late.
South Leicester found an extra gear and scored a further two converted tries to waltz home to an easy victory.
