Three female army cadets from the Newport Detachment have made quite a splash at the National Swimming Championships.
The National Championships were held at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst on October 10.
Cadets Katie Phillips and Mairi Campbell represented the West Midlands Region in the Junior Girls class and Lance Corporal Elizabeth Stork took part in the Senior Girls class.
Good performances by the trio helped the region to a fourth place finish in the UK.
Staff Sergeant Instructor Steven Phelan said: “All three girls are chuffed to bits with their achievements, and the rest of our Detachment here in Newport is very proud of them.
“It’s a fantastic start to the new Cadet Calendar which runs from September to August and all the Cadets are now biting at the heels of the other Detachments in the county to win some more silverware in sports, starting with the six-a-side football competition and cross country in November”.
The girls reached the national finals after success first against the Shropshire Detachment teams and then at the West Midlands Regional Championships in September.
