Newport has welcomed a new rising star to the streets this week as Stephan’s Pastries opened its doors in Baddeley Court on Monday.
The shop has taken residence on the former sweet shop site, situated perfectly for passing trade on the cut through to Somerfield.
Sister partnership Diane Horton and Janet Owen, from Telford, are heading up the store.
They are both hoping to make the most of a busy start with an array of freshly baked delights.
Diane said: “This is the first shop we have opened and it is the first time we have taken on something like this.
“We wanted something for ourselves and after shopping around for a place we settled for Newport.
“One of the hardest parts was finding the right location and going through the estate agents.
“At one stage we were looking in Shifnal and it has taken about five months from start to finish, but I am so glad we ended up in Newport.
“This is a great location and we are hoping to make the most of the passing trade.
“It has been really busy since we opened on Monday so we have had a great start, selling out of most things each day.”
Stephan’s Patries specialises in home-made produce brought freshly into the store each day.
“Cakes and bread are brought in from Wem and pastries are delivered from Broseley.”
Diane said it had already proved a hit with locals and the sister act are inviting the public in with open arms.
She said: “People have been stopping by and saying that it about time there was a shop like this and they are really pleased to see the shop being used.
“There have also been people coming back each day, so there is a customer base steadily growing. Our selling point is that everything comes in fresh each day.
“There are still a few little things that we want to do but it has been really hard work getting to this stage.
“Our aim is to provide a good old fashioned bread and pastry store.”
Stephan’s Pastries is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday.
