Church Aston Horticultural ShowThe Church Aston Horticultural Show positively blossomed this weekend as revellers celebrated the 35th outing of the annual show.

More than 400 entries went in front of judges at the event last Saturday, which took place in the village’s church hall.

Hundreds poured through the doors to enjoy the horticultural extravaganza which featured fruit and vegetables, plants, floral art, home produce, handicrafts, wine and beer.

Show secretary Jill Morris said the weather held out and there was a great atmosphere at the bustling event.

“The show went really well and lots of people came through the doors,” she said.

The church hall was filled with food, flowers and cooking ideas.

And the new vicar, the reverend Dr Leonie Wheeler was able to present the prizes and meet the parish.

Newport Town Mayor Roy Scammell and Telford and Wrekin Council leader Andrew Eade also made appearances.

New for this year’s event was the best garden competition which went straight to a public vote.

Jill, who enjoyed her second year as show secretary, said the new event sparked interest around the village.

She added: “We introduced a light-hearted best garden competition and this was really well received.

“The entry slips were hand delivered to houses around the village so the hard work paid off.”
