Town mourns Princess Lucy

np1xx.JPGNewport’s Princess Lucy died in her mother’s arms last Friday while watching her favourite Disney film, Finding Nemo.

Nine-year-old Lucy Edwards, who was born with severe Cerebral Palsy, was known in the town as Princess Lucy after various fundraising efforts.

The Roddam Court resident, who died at Hope House, could not speak but was able to communicate through reactions in her face.

Lucy got the chance to swim with dolphins and visit Disney World after the town raised £18,000 for the trip.

Mother, Rachel, aged 36, said Lucy’s brother Jack, aged 13 and sister Holly, aged 11, are missing her terribly.

She said: “The children are devastated. They have quiet days, we are going through the grieving process.

“In the end Lucy picked her own time, it was just her body gave up.

“Hope House appealed to Make A Wish Foundation for a holiday for us and that came last year but because Lucy’s health deteriorated pretty quickly, the consultant said she was not well enough to go and they suggested the hot tub instead,”she added.

“We got the hot tub before Mother’s Day so I sat in it on the day with my three children, it was fantastic.”.

The funeral is today at Telford Crematorium at 4pm. All are welcome to attend. There will be a procession up High Street at 3.15pm, led by Telford biking group, Bug Splatz.

The family have requested no one wears black or dark clothing. Donations can be made to Hope House and it is family flowers only. The family will meet at the Lamb in Edgmond at 5.30pm.
