Scout leader dies at summer camp

A village scout leader has died after suffering a massive heart attack.

Andy Miles, aged 48, from Tibberton died last Wednesday while on a camping trip with the 1st Edgmond Scout Group.

The father-of-three was given CPR at the base in Bickley Coppice, north of Shrewsbury, but died before the ambulance arrived.

And this week tributes were paid to Andy.

His wife Tanya said that he was a supportive husband who glowed with pride over his children, Alex, Tom and Oliver.

She said: “Words are not enough to describe my husband. You had to sit next to him and talk to him and you would immediately feel his genuine human spirit.

“We have all learnt so much from him and this is helping us in our utter bewildering grief.

“If it broke Andy would mend it - a heart, a toy or a piece of furniture. And he could see the good in everyone, even those who turned against him.

“He was a loving, kind, loyal, huge-hearted husband and the perfect nurturer and guide for his children.

“Andy lives on in his boys and in all our hearts.”

The scout group had spent two days kayaking and canoeing on the River Severn near Montford Bridge.

Andy was up early on the third day, but returned to bed feeling unwell, where he suffered a heart attack.

The funeral is on Monday, August 10, at 12noon at Telford Crematorium. A memorial service will follow at 1.30pm in Tibberton Church.
