The man injured at Newport Show when he was crushed by a tractor, is expected to be make a full recovery, it was revealed today.
The man, who has not been named, was treated for suspected chest injuries at the scene before being airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham for further treatment.
The story was exclusively broken by the Advertiser online on Saturday, and caused the show to be delayed by around an hour.
Show organisers today said the man was recovering.
Show president Robert Watson Jones said the welfare of exhibitors and spectators was the main priority when organising the show.
He said: “The health and safety procedures put in place to deal with such incidents worked promptly and effectively causing minimal disruption to the event.
“Paramedics were immediately at the scene to attend to the injured man and we have since heard his condition is improving and he should make a full recovery.
We send him and his family best wishes.”
West Midlands Ambulance service spokesperson Claire Thomas said: “Crews treated the man on scene for suspected injuries to his chest, pelvis and shoulder.
“He was given pain relief before being immobilised using a spinal board.”
The show was delayed for more than 45 minutes after the incident, which happened during the Machines Through the Ages display in the main ring.
The incident happened at 4pm and on-site paramedics immediately rushed to the aid of the man.
The air ambulance helicopter was forced to land at Chetwynd Church and the dog show had to be interrupted to allow paramedics access to the injured man.
The accident happened on the far side of the showground near to the lake where the tractors and other machines were based.
The 2009 Newport Show is the 100th edition of the popular agricultural event and it continued as normal after the incident.
Early indications show a record attendance at the event.
