New home for Newport Sports

Newport Sports moved to a new outlet in town.

The town’s only sports store is now up and running at the previous Panik outlet in Lower Bar.

Business owner Steve Shaw, who also owns PR Sports in Oswestry, hopes they can now capitalise on the free parking and closer proximity to customers.

He said: “We are pleased to have moved to the new location where there is free parking outside the store and it is also nearer the schools.

“I had a few parking tickets outside the old store and it was a real problem when lumbering heavy boxes of shirts into the vans. But we are back open and trading in the new store and we are here to support the people of the community and businesses in the town.”

The business will continue to stock a range of sportswear and equipment along with the racket re-stringing facility.

And store manager Martin Shaw, who boarded up the old store last Friday, said they will now be concentrating on the printing side of the business.

He said: “We are very happy to have found this new location and it’s really a lot better for access.

“The building is long and spacious, it is not as wide but we have a couple of floors above so there is more room for storage.

“We have good contracts with the schools and local university and we just want people to know we are just down the road.

“I have even put a printed t-shirt in the old store saying ‘don’t panik we’re in panik.’

A new phone line will be installed in the shop in the coming weeks.
