Classic Furniture is set to be bulldozed after council chiefs passed pland for retail untis and a car auction on the shop’s site.
Members of Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans board passed the decision at a meeting on Wednesday night.
The current lease agreement between Classic Furniture and site owner, David Tringham, runs until September.
And although directors of the furniture supplier recently spoke of their disappointment with the application, it has emerged their lease may be extended as part of the new plans.
Managing Director Phillip Reynolds said: “No one has either informed or notified us of anything.
“However we have David Tringham’s word of assurance that he will never do anything to harm Classic Furniture and in fact he has offered to extend our lease.”
Mr Tringham has stated that Classic Furniture can be incorporated into the new business building should they have difficulties finding alternative premises.
In a report presented to the plans board it stated that if the furniture business was redeveloped on the site there could be an increase in more than 40 jobs.
Additional plans for Parkland House would also increase and improve the employment facilities available and highway safety.
The approval of the plans is subject to consultation until July 15.
And providing no issues arise the new development will be granted.
A spokesman from Telford and Wrekin Council said: “The application will be approved following the expiry of the departure advertisement period and no new issues arising.
“Delegated authority will be granted to the Head of Planning & Environment to grant planning permission subject to the conditions as set out in the report.
“And to any other conditions that officers subsequently deem necessary.”
Newport Town Council is concerned the development would have a direct detrimental impact on retail outlets in the High Street and that there was little evidence that the proposals would bring more or less jobs.
