VIDEO: Dramatic karting crash

picture-20.pngNewport karter Henry Jackson survived a spectacular high speed crash in his latest Super One series meeting held in Kent.

Jackson suffered a horrific 45mph crash during the first lap of the race which catapulted him out of his kart and flung him across the track in front of several other drivers.Despite being hit by three karts and undergoing treatment from the course paramedics Jackson walked away.Jackson described the moment he crashed to the Advertiser this week.

“I was hit from the back which pushed me into the tyre wall at about 45mph,” he said.

“I catapulted out of the kart and I went flying across the circuit above the other karts. I landed on the track and then was run over by two karts and then a third collected me and dragged me to the other side of the track.”

His dad Kevin, who captured the scene on video, said Henry was lucky to have survived such a crash.

“Almost immediately the red flags were waved to stop the race as there had been a serious crash but because of the layout of the circuit I couldn’t see what had happened,” he said.

“All the karts proceeded past slowly and stopped in front of me but I couldn’t see Henry.

“All the team were anxious then the ambulance drove off to the accident, with me running behind it.

“By the time I got to the scene Henry was being treated inside the ambulance, he was thankfully ok. But the same could not be said for the kart!

“Henry was extremely lucky not to have suffered serious injuries, his racing suit and helmet had done their job in protecting him; he escaped with only bruising to his legs and arms.

“He was obviously extremely shaken up by the experience and he decided to pull out from racing for the rest of the day.”

The weekend had started well for Jackson who had performed superbly to put himself ninth on a grid of 40 drivers before the crash ended his weekend.

He will now look forward to the next round of Super One series racing, which is the UK’s top level of karting racing, in Larkhall, Scotland later this month.
