A woman has been hit by an exploding firework which flew towards her when she was walking down Newport High Street.
The 34-year-old victim was walking along the High Street, near to Adams House Hotel, when the incident happened.
She walked past a large group of young people drinking when suddenly a firework came from the direction of Adams House. The firework hit her on her left knee before it exploded with a bang.
She suffered a graze to her knee but no medical attention was sought.
Denise Wakefield, Telford police spokeswoman, said: “Fortunately the woman was not more seriously injured.
“Using fireworks in this manner is extremely dangerous and could have serious consequences.
“We are determined to catch the person or persons responsible for this incident and we would appeal to anyone who saw anything that could help us with our inquiries to come forward.
“There were a lot of people out socialising on Friday night in Newport and we are hoping that somebody will have some information.
“We are especially eager to trace any of the young people drinking in the area, who may have witnessed the incident take place.”
