Newport Round Table is making a final call for nominations for its cash hand out at the Charity and Community Awards.
The event will take place at Newport Carnival on Saturday, June 13, and there has already been an excellent response from businesses.
But Round Table members are keen to get more nominations in before they hand out £3,500 of prize money.
Round Table member Jem Good said that other prizes may be available depending on the support received in the next few weeks.
He said: “We want people to put pen to paper as soon as possible to nominate their favourite charity and community project.
“We are trying to drum up some community spirit and we have managed to get about £1,500 of sponsorship from businesses just in Newport.
“We haven’t gone out of the town. The money has been raised by Newport businesses and will be given to Newport people.”
There will be two categories, Most Worthy Charity and Best Community Project and the winners of each will be awarded £1,000.
Runners up will receive £500 and there will be a third place prize of £250.
Gem added: “The Round Table are involved in fundraising at Christmas time with Santa’s sleigh, Bonfire Night and the Newport Show and these are our main events.
“We thought it would be a great idea as a charitable organisation to get involved with the Carnival and we are also sponsoring the main arena on the day.
“Hopefully this will raise our profile. The town mayor will be presenting the awards on the day.”
The Most Worthy Charity category is being supported by the Advertiser and readers are can nominate charities by writing to the Editor.
All charities should be registered and have a connection with Newport.
For the Best Community Project, nominations should be sent to Newport Round Table c/o PWS, 59b High Street, Newport, TF10 7AU.
Nominations must include details of the project, fundraising done to date, the number of people who will benefit and any other supporting information.
